The House of Daniels has its foundation in the learning and practices of Judaism. This house and its members endeavor to fully embody the following tenants, written in the Torah and the Talmud, which guide us along the path as to how we, as spiritual beings, are meant to conduct our lives to co-create a heaven on earth with love and compassion.
Tikun Olam (repairing the world)
From this we, as living souls, are given the opportunity to fulfill the mission of improving the world Creator has given us. It implies that the world is innately good, and that each of us can improve what we inherited from Creator, bringing it closer to a state of peace and harmony.
Hachnasat Orchim
The literal meaning of which is "Entering of Guests" or welcoming strangers. With this practice we honor Creator by sharing the Creator's given gifts with others and showing gratitude for the blessings we have received. The Talmud says that "hospitality is greater than receiving the Divine Presence"; by welcoming guests we also welcome Divine presence. This Mitzvah (good deed) can be accomplished in many ways and is practiced by families in different ways. It can be anything from inviting guests and strangers over for a meal, providing a safe haven for shelter, or simply offering a warm drink, a place to rest, and someone to listen.
Derech Eretz
Loosely translated, derech eretz means walking the "path" or the "way of the world". Although not formally mandated, it refers to the acts of daily life and conducting them with decency, kindness, honesty, and patience to help create a just and ethical society.
Tzedakah
In Hebrew this word means righteousness. Most people associate it with giving charity but it actually goes far beyond that. Tzedakah comes from the Hebrew word zedek, "justice" and is a way of life and a moral obligation, that includes giving charity. It is an obligation that fulfills one's responsibility to act justly. One who does not give tzedakah is considered to be acting unjustly and Jewish law considers it illegal. Giving tzedakah is a benefit for both the giver and receiver.
The House of Daniels is honored to be a founding member of Mission House and with that association our reach will be far greater and deeper than ever before. We embody the above tenants in our daily living and interactions with other living souls. It is not just words on paper; it is about who we are and the actions we live by.
